Lipodystrophy, Thin Skin, and Easy Skin Damage Jul 15, 2011 Dr. Henry, I've read some posts about people saying they get cut easy or suffer from dry skin and other issues. I have a friend who is HIV positive and has Lipodystrophy in the arms and legs. It's not extreme, but he does notice less fat under the skin especially in his hands and feet. Being there is less fat that means there is less cushioning, therefore he attributes the cuts or bruises to that fact. Pressure that used to be absorbed by the fat under the skin now is not absorbed and the top skin layer ends up taking more damage because of it. He just wanted to add his 2 cents because it seemed people were puzzled in regards to the thin skin issue. Now in cases where there is no Lipodystrophy, it would have be attributed to other factors.
