jerking and infections
Jun 5, 2011

my son has hiv for 5 yrs, is under dr care but does not take pills. he always has staff infections and now is starting to jerk, his shoulder, head and arms, will just start to jerk some times. he is in a lot of pain because of the staff infection. takes antbioic , but they do come back. the dr wants him to start now. please get back to me . is this jerking part of it. he also had hep C, but that's ok right now.

Response from Dr. Henry

An assessment for possible causes of jerking (ie seizure or other neurologic disorder) is recommended. A full assessment by his HIV specialist is warranted to determine if your son would benefit from starting effective HIV treatment (treatment generally helps protect the immune system and in some causes helps promote more normal development).
