back to normal?
Apr 30, 2001

Im thinking in taking a break from my medications(crixivan, zerit, epivir)Im undetectable for the last year and my tcells are over 1000. How long it takes to my buffalo hump to disapear from my back?

Response from Dr. Bartlett

If you take a break from your regimen, it is not clear that the buffalo hump will go away. In some patients the abdominal swelling may get better, but the hump is quite uncertain. You should also carefully consider the consequences of stopping your medications with your health care provider. After you stop, it is very likely that your viral load will go up and your CD4 count will fall. Another option could be to switch your protease inhibitor to another drug, but again it is crucial to discuss this possibility with your provider. Good luck!
