My husband was tested positive and i am not. what are my chances of staying negative now that we are using protection and also his cd4 count is 79 and virol load is 1136 and i am very worried. he started treatment 2month ago and he is taking cotri, naverapine and combivor. how good and effective are these esp on the low cd4 count he has.

For many patients nevirapine and Combivir can effectively control HIV reproduction, result in clinically significant CD4 recovery, and protect health and life. Decreasing HIV levels in the blood due to good HIV treatment also significantly reduces the risk for HIV transmission. If your are now HIV negative, are practicing safe sex (condoms), and your husband is on good HIV meds then your odds to remain HIV negative are good. KH
