Jul 28, 2010

i am non compliant with my hiv meds and i just started them will they still work

Response from Dr. Henry

Highly variable what will happen if meds restarted after period of poor compliance (depends on pattern of non-compliance, which drugs involved, pre-existing resistance, and many other factors). That being said often drugs can/will work if compliance improves (esp true for boosted protease inhibitor based regimen where resistance is slow/hard to develop). Recommend discussing with your HIV doc including whether resistance/viral load monitoring is available/worth considering. KH
