| AZT Myopathy Jun 23, 2010 Hi, I was diagnosed with AZT myopathy a while ago and after almost 11 months, the random large and small muscle twitches are finally starting to go away. I am mildly more exercise tolerant than I was. Ive been using the frequency of these twitches to judge my recovery and I was wondering if now that these are pretty much gone, if the muscle function I have now is the muscle function Im stuck with for the rest of my life. Im hoping not. Thanks, Marie |

Response from Dr. Henry
Muscle damage from AZT usually will reverse after AZT stopped though recovery can be slow and full recovery not guaranteed. Minimal anecdotal evidence of some benefit from use variety of supplements such as thiamine, N acetyl cysteine, co-enzyme Q, acetyl-L-carnitine, and/or mitocnol (Nucleomaxx) so treatment remains frustrating.
