| HPV/anal warts May 31, 2010 Dear Dr, Following on a question posted on another part of this forum, i have a question: There seems to be a link between anal warts, hpv and anal cancer. My boyfriend seems very sensible to these, while I never had any. They are rather annoying to get rid off (aldara is painfull, and freezing is similarly painfull). would HPV vaccination help here? He's not on meds yet, CD4 in the 400dreds but declining more rapidly in the last year. He's also a diabetic. I'm on Atripla and doing fab. thanks! Paul |

Response from Dr. Henry
Good questions. The potential role of HPV vaccination in the setting of HIV infection is unclear at present but merits study (some underway and some preliminary studies suggest some possible benefit to prevent warts/cancer risk). Some clinics are vaccinating some HIV+ patients pending further data since there is modest risk other than pain from shots and cost. KH | |||||||||
