| Lap Band and HIV positive May 7, 2010 I am considering getting the Gastric lap band to help with my weight control. I am HIV positive but not on meds at this time. My HIV speicialist has given me the go ahead as he has had other HIV positive patients who have had the band. However when I spoke with my primary physician he stated he wanted me to research whether it was ok or not. So I am asking the question here. Is there any major issues that would prevent me from getting the lap band since I am HIV positive? Thanks |

Response from Dr. Henry
Surgical interventions for obesity are generally well tolerated by HIV+ persons. If your HIV specialist is comfortable with the lap band that is reassuring that your outcome should be similar to that of HIV- persons. KH | |||||||||
