Is Resveratrol effective against the aging effects of being HIV positive?
May 5, 2010
I've both read and heard on the news about the anti-aging effects of resveratrol and just wondered if there have been any studies of this supplement related to HIV?
I was wondering if there are any known interactions with existing HIV meds, but also if it could be a good addition to an HIV positive persons diet for it's anti-aging properties.
Response from Dr. Henry
The data is not convincing that supplemental resveratrol (red wine extract) has clinically meaningful anti-aging effects. A clinical trial of the drug was just halted due to unexpected kidney side effects. To my knowledge has not been studied in HIV infections. If any reader knows of any published study please post. KH
