sinus infections
Dec 5, 2009

Hi! I've been hiv positive for 18 years. My VL is 480 and my Hiv is less than 50.It just seems like I get alot of sinus infections over the years. At least 4- 5 times a year.Is there anything I could be eating or doing different not to get them. Also I have never smoked. Thanks, Mike

Response from Dr. Henry

Sinus problems including infectons are common in the general population and perhaps more common in HIV+ persons. There often is no easy long-term answer. Frequently there is an underlying chronic allergic rhinitis that sets the area up for infection. Getting a full ENT evaluation (often with X-rays) and sometimes seeing an allergist may help some patients. There is no diet change that I can recommend with any confidence. Decreasing allergens in your living quarters/bedtoom (dust) and optimizing humidity/air quality can help some. Some patients are helped by frequent sinus washing with saline or specialty solutions.KH
