duovir and efavirenz
Aug 23, 2009

I am a male 45 years old, HIV positive, 3 years diagnosed, 8 month on a treatment of DUOVIR and EFAVIRENZ, responding well to it but urinating kind of white bubbles, made a test of PROTEINURIA twice, first 6 month ago with results of 550 and second 1 month ago with results of 220, white bubbles on my urine still the same...would there be anything wrong with my kidneys because of the treatment? I am from Peru, excuse my english and thank you very much for your answer.

Response from Dr. Henry

Duovir (AZT and 3TC) is usually kidney friendly as is efavirenz. HIV can cause kidney damage as can diabetes, high blood pressure, and numerous other non-HIV related conditions. A history and physical examination is recommended as a few step in the evaluation of your kidney status. KH
