CD4 and morbidity
Aug 10, 2009

How long can a person live at cd4 of only 50, despite total ART adherence, and undetectable viral load, my cd4 count has remained a flat 50 for the past 3 yrs ..... it was 50 on my first test before Atripla. Thanks for helping all of us!

Response from Dr. Henry

I have followed numerous patients who have been stuck with a low CD4 count like yours who have remained healthy and in fact often feel good. Now I can't predict the future but many/most of those patients (who also were getting good general health care and prophylaxis for opportunistic infections) remained healthy and often slowly recoveded CD4 cells. Data has shown that patients with suppressed virus on ART do better than one would predict from there CD4 counts alone. KH
