leg viens
Jun 26, 2009

I am wondering if large veins in you calf area are a sign of HIV. I have been positive for 22 years. I beginning to get insecure about my legs. Is there something I can do other than wear pants, because its hot in Florida. It is really starting to hurt me mentally.

Response from Dr. Henry

I have not seen much indicating that varicose veins are clearly more common in HIV+ persons other than noting that with lipoatrophy (fat loss from extremities) the veins can become more prominent. Varicose veins are common in general population as well and often have a genetic component (seen in other family members of similar or older age). KH
