My partner was diagnosed with Encephalopothy in late 2000, underwent drug therapy, still ongoing. In the aftermath of recovery, he now has motor damage and some organizational skills issues. Feb 08 he slipped on ice damaging his spine which took 10 months to diagnos because our primary HIV doc felt my partner was "psychosomatic" ..."Being a hypochondriac". We sought 2nd opinions to finally discovering in fact he wasn't imagining the severe pain he had been in nor faking it. He sustained Cervical and Lumbar damages borne out in x-rays as well as MRI diagnostic results. Our HIV doc has peviously hypothesized to my partners conditon as well as other issues as being ultimately related to the Encephalopothy, as if it's still alive and well in his brain in the form of lesions. ( I make this statement in obvious common sense assumptions to analyzing how our HIV doc has commented and handled my partner's delimmas, past and present, to which he's admitted making hypothetical assumptions not based on resoulte testing. He's appologized profusely! ) I have been directed to find out if my partner should have another brain MRI to factualy determine if the lesions of encephalopothy have been resolved or might possibly still be active. None has been done since the initial diagnostic MRI and before he began drug therapy. Thank you for taking the time to respond!

Besides a complete standard neurologic evaluation a repeat MRI as well as neuropsychiatric testing may indeed by useful to sort out the status of his brain function. KH
