Med and diarrheal
Apr 16, 2009

Hi Doctor, I am taking Truvada and Isentress(raltegravir). On Sunday afternoon, I drank yogurt and got diarrheal. It didn't stop since Sunday evening. I just took Imodium( 4 gm loperamide HCI). I just want to know those HIV Med and Imodium is ok to take? How many hour should I keep between HIV med and Imodium? I took Imodium at 4:00 am in San Francisco. Thank you so much.

Response from Dr. Henry

Usually OK to take Immodium (up to 6/day) with your HIV meds. I would be concerned that you might have an infection causing your loose stools that needs to be evaluated by your HIV doc if your symptoms persist or worsen (infection such as C difficile or salmonella). KH
