Erectile disfunction - Golden Root Complex works fine
Feb 26, 2009

Hello Doctor I am a 47 years old male from Italy in treatment with Viramune and Truvada with good levels/health. The only problem seem to be a not sufficient erection. I spoke to my doctor and he agreed to try viagra, 25 mg. At same time I have been using sporadically a pill sold in the UK called Golden Root Complex (made from a combination of 15 herbs; Golden Root Rhodiola Rosea Powder, Leuzea Carthamoides (Asteraceae) Ext, Cynomorium Songaricum, Tongkat Ali, Siberian Ginseng, Schisandra Chinensis, Muira Puama, Saw Palmetto, Damiana, Chuchuhuasi, Guarana Seed, Cayenne, Grape Seed Extract and Kwaopet.) each pill come with a dosage of 300 mg and I need to take only half (150 mg) for very good results (the only thing is that I get a little nervous). I know that Viagra has side effects so I would prefer avoiding it - so my question is what if I continue using this herbal mix (twice a week not more) - do you know of any negative interactions ? Grazie !!

Response from Dr. Henry

I would not expect a side effect or drug interaction with that pill but it has not been formally studied. There is no good publishesd data that I am aware of that the pill is actually effective or safe for long term use compared to placebo or Viagra like meds. I have may patients who safely take Viagra like drugs under supervision (often need reduced doses at least initially and avoid nitrates/poppers). KH
