| diastasis recti? Feb 14, 2009 Is it normal for someone with HIV to get diastasis recti? I just had a hernia repair in Dec. I had my followup visit with my HIV doctor this past week and he told me it looked like I had another hernia. I went back to my surgen's office today and he says it's diastasis recti. If this is common in HIV people shouldn't my HIV doctor recognized it? Is there a remedy for this or will it just go away? |

Response from Dr. Henry
That has not been a common problem in HIV+ persons to my knowledge. I have seen several cases out of the several thousand HIV+ patients I have taken care of. It occurs in the general population at a low level-may have a family/genetic component. It is possible that increased intra-abdominal fat seen in some HIV+ persons may contribute to the problem.
