High Latic Acid Levels
Jan 28, 2009

Is there a IV therapy or medication for constant high latic acid levels. My levels have been at 4.6 for a month. I stopped taking all my HIV meds in that time period and it is still high at 3.8. Thanks

Response from Dr. Henry

A full metabolic/renal evaluation is recommended if you have a consistent overall metabolic acidosis (not just a persistent elevation of lactic acidosis with no symptoms and otherwise normal metabolic parameters). In some cases of persistent serious acidosis use of sodium bicarbonate is recommended. Exercise and problems with processing the specimens often provide some explanation for elevated mild-moderate, asymptomatic lactic acid levels.
