|Swollen Partotid Glands
Dec 24, 2008
Since I was diagnosed as being HIV+, my parotid glands have been swollen. At first they were very large. I want to know what is a good treatment for this condition, and what are the risks of having them removed?
Response from Dr. Henry
Numerous conditions can result in swollen parotid glands. Proper diagnosis may involve a biopsy. CT scan often shows polycystic disease of the parotids which seems to be more common in HIV+ persons. I have had a dozen or so patients undergo radiation therapy to parotids for polycystic diease with fairly decent results though in some has recurred. KH
