Response from Dr. Henry
Herpess simplex infections can occur throughout the course of HIV infection. There are severaal types of herpes simplex viruses. One of them more frequently infects the genital area (can involve the vagina, cervix, anal and rectal areas as well) while the other form more often involves the oral region (cold sores). Another herpes virus, herpes zoster, infects the nerve root (chicken pox) and then later in life can cause an infection/rash to appeaar along a nerve root. Herpes infections can be more recurrent and more severe in the setting of HIV related immune damage. KH | |||
