Nov 14, 2008
You are the most helpful doctor here in the website who answers quickly! thank you! Just one question: im on my AIDS stage.had survived PCP,Peri-anal abcess, and currently resolving cmv retinitis without specific meds for it.Can i have Hep B vaccine? my hepa profile shows i dont have antibodies for it.can i also have pnuemonia or flu vaccine for protection? is it safe at my stage.

Hepatitis B vaccine is OK to take if you are HIV+ though response may be sub-optimal and usefulness likely decreased if CD4 count low (ie < 200) impairing vaccine response. In our HIV clinic we routinely vaccinate hep B negative pxs with hep B vaccine particulary onec CD4 count > 200. KH
