| Early symptoms after HIV infection Nov 11, 2008 What kind of symptoms can occur short after a primary infection of HIV? I was recently diagnosed but I feel very well. I'm not on treatment yet and my CD4 count is 600. No viral load result available yet. How long can a person live without treatment? |

Response from Dr. Henry
The range of outcomes with HIV infection without treatment is very broad (varies from person to person) anywhere from immediate life threatening problems to survival > 20 years for a small % of patients. In the pre-therapy days the average in the US from infection to AIDS was about 10 years with 1-2 years of survival once AIDS diagnosis. KH | |||||||||
