| Atripla and Glucose levels in the am Oct 26, 2008 I have been taking Atripla since it came out. I am diabetic and on metaformin 500mg 2x a day and for the past couple of months my morning fasting blood sugar levels with diet and exercise average around 139 - 179. During the day they are 100-125. I take atripla in the pm before bedtime can this be raising my morning glucose readings? I also been taking the second dose of metaformin before bedtime. Any advice? |

Response from Dr. Henry
The effect of Atripla on glucose tolerance has been generally minimal. It is possible that Atripla could contribute modestly in some patients to increased insulin requirements. I cannot with any confidence recommend an alternative HIV regimen that would have significantly less effect on glucose levels. I would discuss the matter with your HIV specialist and/or diabetic doc.
