| Mesalazine and Sustiva Oct 24, 2008 I have been on Sustiva and Kivexa for about 8 months, tolerating ok (apart from the first 3 weeks which were hell), but seem to be coping ok now and my numbers are great. However, 2 weeks ago I began taking Mesalazine for suspected Colitis (have managed to take fewer loperamide every day as a result, now down to 2mg every other day), but my sleep quality has really reduced. I am reverting back to the sleep disturbing dreams I received when first starting Sustiva and my energy levels are suffering as a result. Is it possible that the Mesalazine (800mg 3xdaily) is increasing the levels of Sustiva in my blood overnight and really disrupting my sleep? I tend to take my final daily dose of Mesalazine at 1030pm when I take my Sustiva+Kivexa, would taking the Mesalazine earlier, say at 6pm reduce the possibility of this do you think? I hope you can help, thanks for all your advice to us all. |

Response from Dr. Henry
I am not aware of a documented drug interaction between efavirenz and mesalamine. If any reader is aware of a concern or has a personal story please post. KH | ||||||||||
