Response from Dr. Henry
Current HIV medications are actually very effective at switching off HIV making it relatively harmless (while on treatment). There is no treatment on the near term horizon that can switch off HIV rendering it a harmless virus on no treatment though a range of new treatments are under study they are generally at very early stages of study with much uncertainty about clinical merit/practicality.
