Response from Dr. Henry
IL-2 can boost CD4 cells in many individuals. It has to be injected, causes flu like symptoms during the week of injections (typically injected for 5 days out of every weeks and then titrated depending on result). It can cause some serious side effects, is fairly expensive, and it has not been proven that the CD4 boost translates into clinical benefit (some pilot studies hint of some clinical benefit). Results of the two large international NIH sponsored IL-2 trials (SILCAAT for CD4 > 350 and ESPRIT for CD4 > 350)are expected in the next 1-2 years. KH | |||||||||
