| Stopping Zetia Jan 20, 2008 Is it harmful to discontinue this med? I realize I would not be benefitting from low cholesterol but don't think the risk of the medicine is worth it. |

Response from Dr. Henry
In the setting of HIV infection with elevated lipids aggravated by some HIV drugs, there is not enough data to make a strong recommendation on the use of Zetia as an add on to other lipid lowering strategies. The recent press reports about Zetia are not the final word on the subject or even that study since it is not published yet. It is often difficult to achieve lipid targets in the setting of treated HIV infectionso there is a need for additional treatment options. The AIDS Clinical Trials Group did a Zetia study-results have not yet been published though there were no safety concerns during the study. KH | ||||||||||
