| Artemisia Annua - Does it work? Jan 13, 2008 If the provided information is true, could it provide the impetus for funding for research? The reason the research is scanty is due to lack of funding. Based on the possibilities presented here, would the gay community be interested in funding research in light of the potential upside for treatment of HIV AIDS? This research could lead to the next big break through in HIV AIDS treatment. If the community represented by this website is interested in further research, I would be happy to go to Uganda and enquire about the possibility of doing same. I have spent over 3 years there in the past 9 years and have many contacts there in the medical community. I know they are interested in plant research for medicinal use. If you provide me with the required funds,($10,000) I would immediately go there to enquire about research possibilities and work to acquire approvals for clinical trials using these materials. I believe that, given the approvals, within 5 years we could have clinical proof that these materials work and the lives of millions of people could be changed. The reason I can make this claim is that I know my way around the country so well that I know how and where to get plant material and I know the medical personnel from government, church and aid organizations that can help to make this a reality. The founders of insulin were Canadian - as am I. Let us work together to make significant change. Best Regards, Tim |

Response from Dr. Henry
The data supporting the effectiveness of Artemisia Annua is fairly unimpressive at this point. The claims of benefit provide little in the way of hard data and have not been confirmed by any form of independent review. A highly effective treatment should be straightforward to substantiate clinically and thus provide the data to lead to a properly conducted comparison study(including ethical and patient safety safe guards).
