Changing medications Jan 9, 2008 I have been taking 3TC, Tenofovir and Sustiva for just over 2.5 years with great results. My doctor has suggested switching to either Atripla or a combination of Sustiva + Truvada in order to reduce my daily number of pills. Other than the obvious benefit of Atripla being only 1 pill daily, are there any other advantages/disadvantages to either regimen I should consider? |

Response from Dr. Henry
Emtriva (FTC) has a longer half life (lasts longer in the blood) than its close relative drug 3TC (lamuvudine or Epivir). That feature may contribute to the equavalence or modest superiority of FTC seen in studies comparing FTC and 3TC. KH |
