| Re: HIV/AIDS Enquiry Dec 21, 2007 Dr. Conway, Since now you know there are other ways to change someones life, are you willing to go abroad and extend your care to underserved? I don't mean to bug you, I know you are close to Seattle where we can organize something. If you have ever felt that you need to do something recognizable and appreciated, this is one way of becoming a Village hero. Why do I say so? Because since time immememorial, there has never been a HIV/AIDS doctor going to this village and caring about affected people. So, it ois nly a person like you that can save a life. Thank you for replies. |

Response from Dr. Conway
Without answering your question directly (as we have 3 young children at home, which takes up much of my time these days), I would ask us all to think about ways that we can help abroad. This may include: 1. Corresponding with a clinic or village to share our expertise with them. 2. Sending antiretroviral drugs that are left over (we do this to Guyana, in South America). 3. Sending money or other supplies (an organization called Vision is one of many that can make sure things get to the right places) 4. Inviting people to come train and gain expertise in our clinics (once again, we have done this with our Guyanese colleagues). 5. Going abroad for as little as a week can make a difference (all I can reliably do for the next few years, I'm afraid). So you see, even if you are not prepared to go abroad for an extended period, you can do many things to make a difference in the pandemic. | |||||||||
