why treatment
Jul 22, 2007

Why must someone with localized KS need to go on treatment if they have a high T cell count in the 900's. Why is this considered AIDS if T cells are not below 200? Does AIDS progress faster?

Response from Dr. Conway

Kaposi's sarcoma is one of the original opportunistic conditions. Its presence suggests that your immune system is weaker than your absolute T cell count would suggest. As such, it would seem that you would beenfit from going on treatment to rebuild your immune system as soon as possible by removing the negative effect that HIV is having on it. There is more to the immune system than just the CD4 count, and your KS is telling you that HIV is having a significant effect on it...
