|15 Weeks Neg Test
Feb 13, 2007
Hi Brian , I talked to CDC. Why are they saying 6 months and they don't like people taking HIV RNA Test? Let me know because I did Oral quick test at 15 weeks it was Negative.

As many people get post-exposure prophylaxis after being potentially exposed to HIV, there is a theoretical risk of seroconversion being delayed beyond 3 months if infection did indeed occur. This is why some authorities recommend the later, delayed test.
As far as the RNA test goes, it is not a licensed diagnostic test so its widespread use is not encouraged. However, in selected higher risk situations it cna be used to detect pre-seroconversion cases, especially if symptoms consistent with acute HIV infection are present.
