| Factor 4 Lieden Mutation Apr 9, 2001 A year ago I was diagnosed with a pulmonary embolism and spent a week in the hospital on heprin. The doctors found several blood clots in my lower right leg which they had no explaination. A test was done and it was determined that I had a genetic disorder known as 'factor four Lieden mutation' (I may be wrong on the spelling). I am 42 years old and I was wondering why this hasn't come to light before now. I have no family history of this type of disorder. Prior to this I was taking Zerit, Epivir, Crixivan and Videx as my HIV treatment. My blood tests were consistantly good. Has anyone else reported 'developing' a genetic disorder while on HART? I have since changed my HIV medications, but would like to discontinue the Warfarin at some point. Thank you for your help. |

Response from Dr. Boyle
Antiretrovirals would not have caused the gentic problem you have. There have been no reports of genetic mutations such as this occurring in the adult population. | |||
