NucleomaxX
Dec 1, 2006

Doctor I am interested in ordering some NucleomaxX. The local university is conducting a trial on this, but I do not qualify. (It specifies you must be on D4T or DDI and I am not). I also am dealing with high blood sugar levels(avg. of about 185) as well as mile-high triglycerides(around 2000). My doctor is working hard to correct this. I have also experieced significant fat loss over the past 13 years. So, my question to you is - do you think the NucleomaxX would aggrivate or god forbid, increase these levels. You can go to NucleomaxX.com to check it out. Thanks. Neal

Response from Dr. Henry

I don't think enough is known about the effectiveness and safety of NucleoMaxX for me to recommend using it for fat loss in the setting of treated HIV infection. To my knowledge, so far benefit has been reported mostly in persons (as you note) still taking a thymidine analogue (D4T or AZT) known to cause mitochondrial-related fat loss. It is moderatly expensive and now without side effects so I think the jury is out on its role for treating fat loss in a variety of setting . I have several patients on it in the context of an ACTG trial--I need to be patient to see the results of current trials before commenting further /endorsing its use. KH
