Chicken Pox
Nov 17, 2006

I am HIV Positive and am taking Atripla. I have had chicken pox as a child and now teach. It was just announced that several students have reported confirmed cases of chicken pox. Since I had it before, need I worry? I just started Atripla this week. My CD4 count is 218.

Response from Dr. Henry

You should be OK having had chicken pox as a child with persistent immunity (your own immune system hopefully will be improving in the months ahead). If your history of chicken pox is vague your HIV specialist can order a test to detect persistent anti-varicella virus antibodies. KH
