Toxic Effects Aug 23, 2006 Hello docs, Im trying to deal with my hiv positive status the best I can...Im trying to get rid of the recreational drug and alcoohol abuse! But I cant stop worrying about what Ive heard from a friend once that told me you either dye from the hiv or the drug toxicities of the treatment.Is there any truth in that!? |

 HIV therapies are steadily getting easier and safer and more effective. It is not true that patients have a choice between dying of AIDS or side effects of the disease. Some patients survive long term with HIV even without treatment so the dying from AIDS part of that "myth" is incorrect. Very few patients dir from the treatment and most safetly tolerate their medications so the latter part of that "myth" is not true either. Increasingly, wise use of antiretroviral (anti-HIV) medications is expected to maintain the good health of HIV+ persons with the evolving goal to achieve a quality life with near normal life expectancy.
