Kaletra and Diabetes
Aug 16, 2006

Dear Dr. Years ago I took 400 mg twice a day of fortovase and Norvir. I develop severe diabetes that required insulin. After I stopped the norvir and added viracept my blood sugar returned to normal. I am considering a new switch to Kaletra since my vl has been creeping up on invirase with low dose norvir and viracept. Do you think I will have the same diabetes side effect with kaletra? The low dose norvir has not caused an increase in blood sugar at all. Many thanks.

Response from Dr. Henry

The changes that Kaletra would trigger diabetes more than ritonavir boosted saquinavir are low to modest but unpredictable. KH
