Response from Dr. Conway
Sustiva is a non-nucleoside agent that is a very potent antiretroviral drug. When taken with two nucleoside analogues as part of an initial regimen to treat HIV infection, it leads to complete virolgic suppression in over 90% of cases, and this level of suppression can be maintained for many years as long as treatment is continued. In the United States, it will shortly be available in a single pill in combination with tenofovir and emtricitabine. This combination pill (to be called Atriplia) will provide the entire regimen as one pill, once a day, the ultimate in simplicity. | ||||||||||
