| Effects of Long term use of the cocktail Jun 26, 2006 I am a person that was diagnosed in 1995. I have been on assorted different cocktails for the past 10 years or so. Do you know if anyone has suffered any ill effects to their memory or brain in general due to extended use of these drugs. I was a consistent marijuana user for 30 years. In 1995, I cut back to about a joint a week. Then a month ago, quit all together. |

Response from Dr. Henry
Patients who continue to benefit from antiretroviral therapy (with suppression of HIV levels and maintenance of CD4 count > 250) generally have not developed brain problems over a 10 year period of time. There has been no clear linkage of any memory or structural brain problem due to antiretroviral therapy over the first 10 years. HIV causes brain abnormalities so generally use of HIV therapy has either reversed or protected the brain from those problems. KH | |||||||||
