Response from Dr. Henry
There are an increasing # of HIV+ persons who also have diabetes or a pre-diabetic state (due partly to more HIV+ persons who are living longer and getting older and/or gaining weight). I have dozens of HIV+ patients who also have diabetes. In general they do well with their HIV treatment. Sometimes the choice of antiretroviral therapy regimen (if needed) would be influenced by the concern about insulin resistance and other metabolic issues. In the resource lucky areas there is often a choice of medications so that a good fit for an individual patient can often be figured out. KH | ||||||||||
