hiv and hepatitis c
Apr 2, 2006

hi,I need information for my brother, he diagnosed having hiv + about 4 months ago and a month ago he diagnosed with hepatitis c . His cd4 at 6 and his viral about 65000, I wonder is he having aids already with that low cd4 and he hasn't on any med yet I'm still looking for doctor in las vegas. He's 27 yrs old and he has son almost 2 yrs old. his wife and son are negative, should his son check again sometime? but I asked the doctor, she said his son doesn't need to check again. I wonder how his son and wife negative (but thanks GOD though) my brother was junkies about 6yrs ago . could You tell me how long my brother could survive. I need the information please. I am so desperate thinking about my brother every second. Thanx a lot

Response from Dr. Henry

A CD4 count of 6 is AIDS defining. Your brother needs to be seen by an HIV specialist who usually would focus on his HIV and not his hepatitis C for the time being. With good HIV care people in your brother's situation can do well (I have patients like your brother who are doing very well 10 years after starting effective HIV medications). KH
