|First HIV Specialist Visit
Sep 9, 2005
I was diagnosed with HIV infection in August and CD4+ is 274 and Viral load (bDNA)186,000. I have sores on my skin that do not heal and am very fatigued with night sweats and insomnia at times. My F.P. physician says that I will need to start HAART soon and my first appointment with an HIV physician is September 20th. I have been researching HIV, medications, diet and everything else I can read about it. My question is what are the most important questions for my first visit? I have so many questions but I am not sure where to begin. Any advise?

Finding out some of your HIV specialist treatment philosophy is a useful discussion point. Finding out about which research studies are available and which questions are being addressed in active research studies is another good talking point. Another useful discussion topic is how accessible are other specialist (such as dermatologists mental health workders, dentists, social workers and case managers). KH
