Many medical problems besides HIV/AIDS can cause swelling in the legs. Examples include heart failure, kidney disease, liver disease, obstruction of blood or lymph flow through the pelvis, abdomen. Your doctor can often differentiate the various conditions with a complete history and physical examination in order to try and treat the underlying cause. Numerous AIDS-related problems could also cause the legs to swell. KH
