once converted to AIDS from HIV what now? Aug 9, 2005 my brother lived with HIV for 20 years. He recently was hospitalized with pnuemonia. the doctors told us he has converted to Aids. What can we do, what should we expect, how long can he live and are drugs still useful? |

 Many forms of AIDS-associated pneumonia can be treated. If your brother's HIV virus has developed resistance to many/most of the available HIV meds then chances for full recovery and long life are diminished. Many variables (both HIV related and not) impact long term chances for good health. Certainly many patients who have lived with HIV for decades and who now have been diagnosed with AIDS can do well if good treatment options are available. KH | ||||||||
