 Eczema is a fairly non=specific term often meaning chronic skin irritation or a vescicular skin rash. The best treatment depends on the inciting problem which may or may not be HIV -related. Many ingredients in topical drugs, cosmetics, plants, metals, dyes, airborn substances, industrial agents or chemicals present in clothing can iniate or aggravate a skin problem. HIV can also cause a wide variety of skin problems as can different HIV drugs. Thus it is not easy to recommend one treatment. Eliminating the effending irritant is often key. Depending on the cause, moisturizing agents, steroids, antihistimines can help. Getting help from your HIV specialist or dermatologist is often crucial to make the best diagnosis and treatment plan.
