rash on arms
Jul 22, 2005

I would like to know if I could be allergic to the sun just by getting the mail. I live in SC and had been diagnosed ten years ago with photo dermatitis on my face and neck from UV lights. I have severe itching on the inside of both my arms, one day two weeks ago and again today. It does go away after a while but the rash looks like long hives. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Bev. I am 68.

Response from Dr. Henry

Occasionally patients can suffer from such severe photo dermatitis that even mild/brief sun exposure can trigger an outbreak. Certain HIV-related drugs (such as sulfa drugs) can trigger or aggravate the condition. What is your HIV status and which HIV drugs are you taking (this is a forum related to discussion of HIV drug side effects). KH

what is sulfameth/trimethoprim
