Can any form of stomach stapling or lap band surgery be done on an obese woman with HIV
Response from Dr. Henry
Persons with HIV generally do well with most surgical procedures. Outcomes may be somewhat improved if the patients had a good CD4 count and a suppressed viral level. I have not seen much on outcomes for stomach stabling procesures in HIV+ patients. Much of the approach would be similar to an uninfected patient. In most cases if a patient was undergoing elective surgery we would consider making sure their nutrion and HIV status was optimized. KH
