Does a combination of meds result in false test results?
May 30, 2005
Hello, I have recently gone for a drug test and it caome back positive for cocaine and marijuana. I have not done drugs in about ten years and would like to know if any of my prescriptions would cause false test results?
I am on: lexapro, lorazepam, epivir, viread, kaletra, zithromax, bactrim, and a multi-vitamin. Also, I have had radiation treatment for Kaposi's sarcoma along with several CAT scans. Would any of this affect a drug screening individually or as a combination?
Response from Dr. Conway
I have heard of some HIV drugs giving false positive test results for marijuana, but not for cocaine. I would be concerned about the accuracy of the test procedure if you have been clean as long as you say. I would ask the people who did the test whether they have run into this type of false positive result before, especially in the recent past.
