Response from Dr. Conway
Of all the combinations we have evaluated in clinical trials, lamivudine, tenofovir and efavirenz is associated with the lowest incidence of lipodystrophy over 3-5 years. Combinations including zidovudine do not have as much of a positive track record, but are not as bad as those including stavudine with respect to lipodystrophy. Many prescribers would feel comfortable giving you 3 medications rather than 4 and you should discuss with your doc why he/she feels you should be on zidovudine along with lamivudine, tenofovir and efavirenz. | |||||||||
