Swollen Lymph glands and dying
Dec 10, 2004
Why are people still dying of Aids , does this mean that the Aids drugs are not working . second question : What is the life expectancy of someone who have swollen glands but is already taking medication
Response from Dr. Henry
The main reason why so many people still are dying of AIDS is that perhaps up to 95% of persons with AIDS are not being treated worldwide. In 1996 the death rate in my clinic plummetted 90% and has remained low every since. Some of my patients have drug resistance (often due to prior inadequate therapy)so they don't response well to HIV drugs. Many patients at the county hospital where I work present late with full blown AIDS and succumb before we can reverse the process (people at risk need to get tested while they are still healthy!). Finally, what few deaths I experience in my clinic are often due to non-AIDS causes (cancer, heart disease, accidents-et cetera) that would be expected as patients live much longer. KH
